About the Course

In this workshop, we explore key concepts and practical steps for initiating mechanical ventilation in emergencies, with a focus on the crucial first 15 minutes after intubation, detailing how to safely set up and manage the mechanical ventilator. Key points include: The importance of obtaining patient-specific information (height, age, sex), calculating ideal body weight, and setting initial ventilator parameters such as tidal volume, respiratory rate, PEEP, and FiO2. This course also covers the differences between pressure-controlled and volume-controlled ventilation, the significance of peak and plateau pressures, and how to adjust settings to maintain patient safety and comfort, and the importance of monitoring and troubleshooting to ensure optimal ventilator performance and patient outcomes. Practical tips for preparing patients for transport and communicating with transport teams are also provided.
